Sometimes when we are at the whim of our feeble bodies, the week has only begun and the rest of the chores won’t do themselves, we need a little pick me up.  It can be  daunting staring into the pantry with a foggy brain, knowing you need something but not exactly sure what. Fortunately, there are a few simple – and tasty – beverages that can give the kick you need, without requiring any travel further than your kitchen and any clarity further than what to watch as you sip.

Hot Toddy

You’ll need:
Whiskey, lemongrass & ginger herbal tea, fresh ginger, cloves, honey, lemon juice, hot water, mug

How to:
Pour boiling water into mug with teabag, cloves and ginger and steep teabag for 2-‐3 minutes. Remove, add 1 teaspoon of honey, stir in to dissolve. Add ½ shot of whiskey, a squeeze of lemon, stir again. Sip.

Toddy’s Little Brother

You’ll need:
As above, but replace whisky with apple cider vinegar, lemon & ginger tea with chamomile, and mug with a port glass

How to:
Pour boiling water into glass until half full and steep tea bag for 2 minutes. Remove, add 1 teaspoon of honey, stir in to dissolve. Add a healthy dash of apple cider vinegar, a squeeze of lemon, stir again. Sip.

Ginger Megs

You’ll need:
1 inch chopped ginger, black tea leaves, brown sugar, ground nutmeg, mug

How to:
In a saucepan add nutmeg, ginger and water, bring to a boil and let brew for 3 minutes. Add tea leaves, turn off heat and let stand for another minute. Transfer to mug, add a pinch of brown sugar. Sip.

Chocolate Turmeric Tonic

You’ll need:
Unsweetened cocoa powder, ground turmeric, coconut oil, black pepper, cayenne pepper, honey, milk, mug

How to:
In a saucepan combine milk, cocoa powder, turmeric and coconut oil. Give ingredients a whisk and bring to a boil. Whisk again to get rid of any turmeric or cocoa lumps and to make sure milk doesn’t fasten to the saucepan. Once boiling, turn off heat and stir in black and cayenne pepper. Transfer mug and add honey to taste. Sip.

There you have it. Four easy drinks – one for each day of the workweek. As for Friday? I hear red wine is rich in antioxidants.
